Groin Injuries in Athletes -- American Family Physician

Factors that complicate the diagnosis include the complex anatomy of the region and the frequent coexistence of two or more disorders. In one study of 21 patients with groin pain, 19 patients were found to have two or more disorders. The investigators concluded that groin pain in athletes is complex and can be difficult to evaluate even by experienced physicians. The ability to visualize the anatomy of the groin area is important for both the physical examination and the differential diagnosis. The anatomy of the groin region is illustrated in Figure 1.
